A GP and a surgeon, a rare dual clinical qualification, who sees menopausal women in clinic every week and brings that direct clinical experience straight into the room. Clinical Director of DoctoriumGP, based in Derby.
The UK's Employment Rights Act brings a duty from spring 2027 for employers with 250 or more staff to publish an equality action plan, selecting at least two of the government's recommended actions, several of which are menopause-specific: manager training, occupational health advice, workplace risk assessments. Separately, menopause-related employment tribunal citations have already more than tripled since 2022, from 64 to 204, according to Nockolds Solicitors. A tribunal recently ordered Footlaffs, a five-person Petersfield beauty salon, to pay £32,237 for failing to make reasonable adjustments for an employee's perimenopause symptoms, a reminder that Equality Act protections already apply to employers of any size, well before the 2027 duty arrives.
Most audiences hearing about this get it from a policy slide. Dr Lewis brings it from clinic: what she actually sees, week to week, in the women living through it, and what that means for how a workplace responds.
What an equality action plan actually needs to contain, and how employers of any size are already exposed under the Equality Act right now.
What a £32,000 award against a five-person salon means for the size of business that assumes this doesn't apply to them.
The clinical reality behind the policy: what workplace guidance usually misses because it isn't written by someone treating this every week.
The model behind Dr Lewis's own Half-Day corporate programme: a Manager Masterclass, an all-staff session, and a written doctor's note for the record.
